Donor Screening

It makes intuitive and business sense that an organisation working toward certain social and/or environmental goals should think carefully before accepting funds from a company with a poor record in the areas of human rights or the environment, for example. The first step is knowing all one can about a company before entering into a relationship or partnership. A decision that is based on knowledge usually turns out to hold fewer unpleasant surprises than one based on insufficient research and thought. We are aware that no company is perfect...just because a potential donor has a mixed social and environmental record does not mean that it should be rejected. However, an organisation should be well equipped to defend its decision to stakeholders, confronting any criticism head on.

Jantzi Research assists:

  • in developing guidelines to ensure the mission of the organization is considered when seeking corporate funding support;
  • assesses the compatability of corporate partnerships and donations;
  • prepares in depth research and analysis on prospective corporate partners;
  • provides educational seminars and workshops to organizations and their boards about donor screening.

Our Canadian Social Investment Database™ (CSID™) is a keen tool for organizations wishing to research suitable corporations for funding. CSID™'s evaluation of corporate social and environmental performance is based on Jantzi Research's comprehensive rating criteria, which highlight areas of strength and areas of concern for each company in the database. Each company's profile contains explanations for strength and/or concern ratings assigned by Jantzi Research as well as other details relevant to the company's performance.
