Global Environment 60 Index (GE60)

KLD Analytics & Research and Jantzi Research Inc. developed the Global Environment 60sm(GE60) to support investment strategies that help build a more sustainable global economy.

The Global Environment 60 is designed to address global trends that will have a profound impact on capital markets, including demographic shifts, industrialization of the developing world, and climate change. These trends have already increased both demand for and prices of commodities (including water, energy, food and other natural resources) and consumer goods.

The GE60 is constructed of the 12 largest companies from each of these five themes.

Methodology

Index Construction

The KLD/Jantzi Global Environment 60 Index (GE60) constituents are selected from a global universe of public companies that are headquartered in or trade on a developed market exchange for their involvement in one of the five abovementioned environmental themes. Only pure-play companies - those that derive a majority (greater than or equal to 50%) of their revenues from themes-related products and services - are considered for inclusion.

Companies with pure-play involvement in one of the five environmental themes are reviewed individually by the GEI Committee prior to addition. In order to ensure the investability of the Index, KLD and Jantzi review certain financial characteristics of the companies, such as float and share price.

The GEI is a float adjusted market capitalization weighted index.

Index Maintenance

The GE60 reconstitutes each year in November at which time the 12 largest companies from each of the five environmental themes, as determined by float-adjusted market capitalization, will be included. Between reconstitutions, KLD may add a company to the GE60 in order to maintain the total number of included companies at 60 at all times. When a company is removed from the GE60 for any reason, it will be replaced by the largest company of the same environmental theme that is not currently included in the Index.
