Sustainable Water Index

COMING SOON

Companies included on the KLD/Jantzi Sustainable Water Index (GSW) are those whose product and service offerings focus on:

  • Minimizing and monitoring current water use and demand increases;
  • Improving the quality of water supply; or
  • Improving the availability and reliability of water.

The Sustainable Water theme includes companies that provide products and services in water and wastewater treatment (i.e. water treatment plants, equipment and technologies used for treatment/purification of
water, wastewater and sewage); water infrastructure (i.e. companies that build or maintain water and sanitation pipelines); or water resource management/water efficiency (i.e. technologies that reduce use of, reuse, or recycle water such as smart metering devices and controls, low-flow equipment and rainwater harvesting systems).

Global Drivers for Sustainable Water:

  • Climate change is already affecting precipitation patterns around the globe and in some countries growing scarcity of clean water is affecting both human consumption and agriculture (droughts, decrease in snow covers).
  • More than one billion people worldwide lack access to drinking water, more than 2.5 billion lack access to sanitation.
  • Population growth, urbanisation and economic development in Asian countries but also in other parts of the world will spur water consumption.
  • Water management is a key component of sustainable development.
  • 70% of the world’s freshwater is used for irrigation purposes -- improvement of irrigation techniques can save a lot of water.
